In my eyes it is very clear which of this years WHP line-ups is the top one. The WHP returns to Manchester in September after ridiculous rumours that after last years stint, the most epic part of Manchester's music scene would reside elsewhere in the UK and never return to Manc. And so, yet again from 23rd September until 1st January we have an incredible array of DJ's, MC's and bands playing their own individual vibes to the chaos that is the WHP croud. The most common question in-between the release of the line-up and the opening day of the underground car park, turned best club in the country is, which line-up is the best? In my eyes there is only one winner..
Thrasher. 29th October. DONE. Spearheaded by the utter genius that is LA Producer and DJ Flying Lotus, the line-up is literally mind blowing. In terms of Beat Music/Glitch Hop or whatever you want to call it, i don't think i have seen a better line-up for this recently evolved genre of electronica, hip hop, deep house and whatever else you can hear in it.
Flying Lotus is backed up by some of the most exciting dj's in Manchester and residents of the Hoya:Hoya clubnight based at the dingy Roadhouse, a clubnight we are yet to attend but have heard amazing things from and it is safe to say we shall be a regular there from September.
Johnny Dub a founder of Hoya:Hoya is sure to be great, whilst Illum Sphere who has played Hoya:Hoya and is from the great city himself is sure to impress on the WHP stage.
A huge current favourite of mine also on the bill is a DJ from London named Floating Points. He has remixed Bonobo, Four Tet and the legendary French DJ/Producer/Multi instrumentalist/Jesus look a like/Coolest man on earth, Sebastien Tellier, NOT THREE BAD! He has also released a couple of EP's i have managed to get my hands on, Vacuum Boogie being an absolute beat. If you are attending, be sure not to miss this guy..
Mala and Coki and Dorian Concept would also be very exciting to see. However for me, as long as i am right at the front preferably with a cheeky zoot when FlyLo walks on that stage, i am a very very very happy man.
Here's a few tunes to warm you up for the 29th. Get your tickets fast as this one will be very big. The biggest for a long time.
FlyLo- Quakes
Illum Sphere- Hoya:Hoya Vibes
Bonobo- Eyesdown (Floating Points Remix)
Flying Lotus- Melt
